What is the Role of a Life Coach?

As more and more people experience the empowering benefits of hiring a personal life coach, this area of expertise is exploding.

Life coaching is a future focused practice that helps clients determine and achieve personal goals. Coaches are trained to use inquiry, reflection and discussion to help clients change their perceptions about limiting beliefs and move ahead to develop strategies and action plans that will bring about a happier life.

A life coach is not the same as a therapist, but uses specific insights and skills to bring out capabilities and talents that the client has within. However, the client is responsible for his/her own actions, achievements and successes and the more effort put in to working with a life coach, the bigger the achievements. Hiring a life coach is not a frivolous matter. Total commitment is expected from both parties and only those who are truly motivated to change, will benefit.

No longer for the rich and famous, everyday people are now hiring life coaches. Fees vary considerably. While Tony Robbins and Jack Canfield can command thousands of dollars for their expertise, the average cost of a life coach is around $300 per month. Some coaches prefer to charge by the hour. You can expect something like four one hour telephone calls per month and a certain amount of email support for your fees paid. Almost all life coaching is done via telephone and so you can be coached anywhere in the world. Some coaches pay for the calls themselves, while others bill clients for the phone calls.

Clients usually need three months or more of coaching to change limited thinking and perceptions and to develop new strategies to achieve the goals they want to accomplish.

Most coaches offer free mini sessions to see if the client and coach are a good fit and require the signing of an agreement if the coach is hired.

As Henry Ford once said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.” Life coaches are trained to help clients navigate around those obstacles. They act as a mirror, and as a place for clients to be held accountable. Coaches monitor the client’s progress towards implementing their action plans and also can provide unbiased perspectives.

It’s never too late to become the person you always wanted to be and hiring a life coach can be a very effective tool to get you to that place in the shortest time possible.

Life coaches are great resources for making changes in your life. If you have a goal in your life and don’t know where to start to acheive that goal, consider using a lfe coach for personalized insight on how to accomplish your goal. Sometimes a person from the outside can see your situation more clearly because they are not caught up in the midst of things. Life coaches are valuable resources if you are at a stand-still in your life and don’t know what to do next.

My husband sees a therapist twice a week. Some progress is being made. I’m going to talk to him about a life coach. It would be nice if life coaching was covered by our insurance.

I really like the idea of the mini sessions. This is great so that u can decide if this will really work. I hv been thinking about getting a life coach for awhile and was doing research when i found this article. I also like the idea that it is done by phone, so much more convienant.
